Of course, you would never allow your personal vehicle to get
to a point where one of the tires might accidentally blow out,
but what if you borrow your irresponsible brother-in-law’s
car and you find yourself in this situation?
- Don’t panic. If you over-react you may cause the vehicle to lose control.
- Don’t step on the brake. This is the absolute wrong thing to do – it can cause a greater imbalance in the vehicle’s stability.
- Don’t abruptly release your foot from the accelerator. This will transfer weight from the back tires to the front tires and can lead to loss of control.
That’s what you shouldn’t do. Here’s what to do:
- Let
your foot off the accelerator- gradually.
- Carefully bring
the vehicle under control by correcting the steering.
- Once
you are under control slow down - again gradually.
- Pull off
the road when it is safe to do so.
And then, if you feel
a little shaky (and who wouldn’t?) and don’t feel
up to putting on the spare, just give us a call at Gatto’s and we’ll
send a tow truck out to get you to one of our stores so you can get on
your way.
And just remember the first
rule of the road:
Never borrow anything from your brother-in-law.
